11/23/08 - Family Volunteer Day - The Kindness Connection invites people of all ages to celebrate Family Volunteer Day at Starland, The North Shore's Premier Creativity Center for Kids (710 Robert York Avenue, Suite D, Deerfield, IL 60015) from 2-4:00pm on Sunday 11/23. Volunteers will be making bookmarks for the blind, get well cards for wounded troops, backpacks for children in hospitals, Special Olympics medals, and more. National Family Volunteer Day is strategically held on the weekend before Thanksgiving each year as a means to kick-off the holiday season of giving and service.
9/27/08 - National "Day of Action" - The Kindness Connection invites people of all ages to join their volunteers at The Wilmette Public Library (1242 Wilmette Avenue, Wilmette IL 60091) from 2-4:00pm in order to make bookmarks to give to Hadley School for the Blind and Concern for the Future, an organization supporting the education of Ugandan children. There are currently 1071 Service Nation Day of Action events planned for across America on September 27th. The Day of Action is being spearheaded by Service Nation, whose vision is "an America in which, by 2020, 100 million citizens will volunteer time in schools, workplaces, and faith-based and community institutions each and every year (up from 61 million today)." 6/12/08 - Ladies Night Out in Wilmette. Proceeds from this community event will benefit The Kindness Connection. Shop downtown Wilmette from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.
4/13/08 - Northwestern Alumni Club - Complete various service projects to benefit Habitat for Humanity, Hines VA Hospital, Special Olympics and other nonprofits including organizations, which serve children in need, the elderly, and sheltered animals. The service projects are appropriate for people between the ages of 5 and 105. There is a $5 fee to cover the costs of goods used. We have a variety of projects to benefit Habitat for Humanity. These projects may include decorated planters, painted benches, placemats and wood chimes. The gifts will be given to new homeowners as housewarming presents.
